How do you get in touch with English speakers abroad?

The internet offers many opportunities to find people to write to or chat to in English, and this is a great way to practise and develop your language skills.

One idea is to register with a forum where people are discussing topics of interest to you in English. There are thousands of them, but one that is specifically aimed at students of English and one that has a good reputation is at Dave's ESL Cafe.

Social networking sites like Facebook can also be very useful. You might be particularly interested is Facebook's language exchange programme. You can find a native English speaker there who will let you communicate with them in English if you help them learn your language. Could be fun and you will be helping others.
