Το Σχολείο της Σοφία Σπύρου

Our language school has been running since 1993. It is below Mount Pelion overlooking the sea. It is on a square facing a Cultural Center on the ground floor of a two storey neoclassical building and it has four classrooms and a yard.

Our seven teachers are well qualified and experienced. Two members of staff hold an MA and our British teacher has a PhD. They attend seminars and exhibitions to become acquainted with new educational trends, exams and books.

The age of our students ranges between seven and seventeen, although there are also cases of adult students who follow a more intensive course of study to prepare for any certificates they need for their career. In its first year of operation the school had 65 students but for the last three years the number of students has been steady at around 180.

The number of students in each class is at the most twelve and if there is no specific group to accommodate a student or if a student is unable to keep up with the pace of the class we offer private lessons with one of our tutors. At the moment, the class levels are the following : a and b junior (primary level), A, B, C, D and E Senior (secondary level) and finally B2, Advanced and Proficiency Certificate classes.

Along with the language instruction we familiarize them with foreign cultures like the British and the American and broaden their horizons with discussions and exercises that enhance tolerance, cooperation and discipline. They are not encouraged to learn through parrot learning but through constant recycling and drilling as well as project work. Up to date course books are meticulously chosen to satisfy their needs and turn them into thinkers and not passive learners.

The atmosphere in our language school is friendly and warm among members of staff as well as between students and teachers so students learn in a cozy environment, in a fun way.
